September 9, 2006: A day in History.
This is a blast from the past. Some photos may follow. Depends on how photogenic I feel.

Friday, I spent surveying England's history by visiting many little "points" of tourist interest that dot the English countryside. They just confirmed what Sir Humphrey had once remarked about British foreign policy. The focal point of the said policy was (and probably still remains) France. I dare say the situation is the same across the channel. However, because the French are masters of disguise (years of masked balls and Marquis de Sade, you know), the only clue to this may be found in their antipathy to anything English, and the nature of their wit - markedly anti-English. The English are more up-front about their interest in France - they simply invade the darn place.
So, perhaps the driving force behind these two worthies' imperialistic shenanigans was less fortune and fame, and more a desire to show the other one up. Could Robert Clive probably have had more fun muttering "Take that Dupleix", than measuring his acres of conquest?
An interesting question for the dopes at JNU*, but not more interesting than...
What if these two chappies had been friends? What would (a lot of) today's World be like?
I ducked and weaved as answers flew past me, until the obvious me got me in the face like a pie. (No bananas please). Most of the World would then have been like, hold your breath, Canada!
I thank thee Lord for enmity.
